Proof

Here is further proof that Red Sox fans are pathetically obsessed with the Yankees and care as much about a Yankees loss as they do a Red Sox win. This is a state of mind I will never understand. I had a college roommate who said 2001 was a great year in sports for him because the Yankees lost in the World Series. How he can be happy about a baseball season that ends with his team not in the playoffs is beyond me.

It's like those college t-shirts that say "my favorite teams are Kansas State and whoever plays Kansas".

Whenever you see the spoiled brat win the beauty contest every year simply because she's the only one who can afford a stylist and a nice dress, there's obviously going to be some animosity amongst the other contestants. [Disclaimer - I realize that was probably the worst and most girly analogy ever but I'm tired and some chick is talking about beauty contests on TV.]

I love the Red Sox and hate the Yankees with a passion. But don't get me wrong, I'm a baseball enthusiast who respects the game and its history. With that said, I love Derek Jeter and thinks he's an absolute winner who plays his ass off every night. He deserves all the praise in the world. BUT, even Yankee fans have to agree that their management has tended to recently sign players who feel they should be handed a World Series trophy the minute they put on pinstripes. So, they show up every day and collect their big paychecks while thumbing their noses at everyone else. That's why everyone hates them and that's why they haven't won a series since the Olsen twins were hanging out with Bob Saget.

I'll be the first to admit that the Yankees' spending habits are way out of hand (although having the second-highest payroll means something too).

It isn't that I am surprised that people hate the Yankees. After all, I hate Duke, the LA Lakers and the Detroit Red Wings. I am just amazed at how intense that hatred is - where people are happy even when the Red Sox lose just as long as the Yankees lose too. I know I don't feel that way about the Sox. If at the end of the season the Sox didn't win it all, but neither did the Yankees, to me that is still a bad season.
